Answers to the most common questions about our unique pet tags and pendants
This is more than I usually pay for a dog tag, so how do I know it won't fall off and get lost?
We know you are making an investment in your dog, and thought that might be customers' number one concern — and, frankly, it was ours too. So we designed an extra-thick bale at the top of the piece, and a super-sturdy stainless steel double split ring to attach to your dog's collar. We give you three of these rings, so you can put a new one on every year for peace of mind. (And you can contact us if you ever want more.) Then we had our golden retriever, Jessie, test our tag for three straight years — she's a delightfully rambunctious dog who gave the tag a workout — and we can honestly report that her tag never once came close to falling off.
How can I know the engraving will last on the back of the dog tag?
While the entire dog bowl is sterling silver, we placed a stainless steel plate on the back to ensure that your dog's information will last. (We wanted at first to make the tag entirely of silver, but learned the hard way that the engraving on silver rubbed off against our dog's fur.) Stainless steel is tough, and can withstand the friction of rubbing back and forth. We deeply laser-engrave the stainless steel plate with your dog's information to make absolutely certain that it will last.
Will the dog tag get scratched?
We were unwilling to compromise on using genuine 925 sterling silver (only the best), and, like all precious metals, silver will show a few scratches. Because of the multiple textures of the tag and its dimensional aspect, any scratches that do occur should not interfere with the beauty of the piece.
Can the dog tag go in water?
Our dog Jessie romped through water almost daily, so we know that the tag will not be harmed by getting wet. As soon as your dog is done playing, though, dry the tag off. The sterling silver is tarnish-free, but, like all sterling, it will change color slightly over time. Getting it wet will hasten the slight darkening, but it will still look beautiful.
What size tag should I order for my dog?
We toyed with the idea of suggesting a certain size tag for a certain weight range of dog, but realized that this is entirely a personal decision. Some little dogs like big jewelry; some big dogs prefer the subtle touch. Why not hold a coin up to your dog's collar to decide? The large Bowl Me Over™ is about the size of a half dollar; the medium, a quarter, and the small, a nickel.
I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, but would a boy dog wear this tag?
Absolutely! We think of these as unisex tags suited to any dog's personality. Some boy dogs we know love diamonds — some just stick with the manly sterling. Heck, we even know some guys who bought the pendant for themselves, too! Beautiful jewelry knows neither gender nor species!
Is the collar on the dog on your home page available for purchase?
At this time we are selling the Bowl Me Over™ Dog Tags and People Pendants. The dog collars, bows and pillows pictured on the website are not for sale.
